Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver, composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metal (usually
copper) added to give it strength and durability. Sterling silver has a brilliant luster that can be
polished to a high shine.
Tarnish
Tarnish on sterling silver is due to oxidation – exposure to air. Gray or black film covers the
surface. Wearing your sterling silver jewelry regularly helps to discourage tarnishing. If your
jewelry does become tarnished, use a soft jewelry cloth to buff the tarnish away and to restore its
original shine.
